Greetings Barry,

Meantime, we have some job openings here at Boston University. If you
happen to know of truly outstanding students who work in the mobile
communication/big data-data visualization space (see description below)
please encourage them to apply immediately. We are looking to build a
doctoral program that encompasses the intersection of these topics.
With all best wishes, Jim

Boston University's College of Communication invites applications for 2
Assistant Professor tenure-track positions in Emerging Media Studies.
These positions will be part of an exciting new program at the College
that focuses on emerging and social media in the context of the
College's already strong programs in traditional media research. The
program includes development of new M.A. and Ph.D. programs and a
cross-unit Center for Mobile Communication Studies. These positions
require a Ph.D. in Communication or related area at the time of hire,
strong grounding in theory and research, teaching experience and a
publication record. Candidates with potential to establish a funded
research program are especially encouraged to apply.

Areas of research of particular interest to the search committee include:

(1) Mobile communication. Methodological sophistication is desired,
especially in quantitative analysis of longitudinal behavioral data
concerning political or interpersonal communication.

(2) Big data. Quantitative analysis of human communication behavior
related to emerging media technology. Skills sought include data mining,
secondary analysis of large data sets, visual displays of quantitative
information, and dynamic data mapping. The candidates should have
previously connected these skills with substantive topics related to
emerging media studies.

(3) Creative behaviors of social media users. Rigorous social scientific
analysis of user behavior related to co-creation and consumption of
emerging media content. Of particular interest is the relationship
between these activities and traditional media and/or social media
entrepreneurship.

Duties will include teaching courses in Emerging Media Studies and in
the candidate's areas of expertise and the opportunity to serve as
assistant director of the Center for Mobile Communication Studies.
Incumbents will be expected to conduct an active program of research
consistent with Boston University's standing as a Research I University
and member of the AAU. Salary is dependent on qualifications. The
positions are subject to available funding.
