FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 5, 2021
___________

PROJECT SUMMARY
Artists living in Washington State are invited to submit qualifications for the City of Auburn's Mural Artist Roster. This roster serves as a resource to identify artists most suitable for new artwork commissions as opportunities become available. The roster will be updated every three years and artists currently listed on the roster are invited to reapply.

ELIGIBILITY:
Open to experienced artists living in the Washington State regardless of race, color, creed, gender, gender variance, national origin, age, religion, marital status, political opinion or affiliation or mental or physical handicap. Artists working in any media are eligible to apply. Artists are not required to have previous experience in public art, although evidence of artistic skills and possible project feasibility is expected to be shown in the past work samples.

PROJECT TIMELINE:
Application deadline - May 18, 2021; 10:59 pm PST
Notification of selected artists - June 2021
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The City of Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation division has collaborated with the Code Enforcement division to create opportunities for works of public art to be created. The goal of the project is to enhance Auburn's public spaces by adding works of art by local artists to utilitarian surfaces that are often targeted by vandalism. These pieces of public art can enhance the visual character of our city, promote community dialogue, turn ordinary spaces into community landmarks, and are accessible to everyone.

Artists selected to be on the Mural Artist Roster may be contacted with the opportunity to be paid a stipend to submit designs for mural opportunities as they arise, but also have the opportunity to decline if the specific location, timeline, project or budget is not the correct fit for both the artist and the City of Auburn.
