LED Lighting

Hi All!

With only a 110 aHr battery for the house battery on our MC30
Ribbitt!!! I am concerned that the standard MR16 and MR11 lamps are
too power consumptive. I am testing LED replacements in the form of a
12 gang LED MR11 and a 3 watt Luxeon MR16. These lamps are much
cooler in color, i.e. bluer, but 'almost' as bright as the 10 watt
MR11 and 20 watt Halogen they replace. The Luxeon looks to be a
pretty much perfect replacement for a reading light,  and I wish the
MR11s looked as attractive. The skipper does approve of these
installations however, so they do pass the 'dacor" test.

These lamps are expensive. $20 for a 3 watt super bright white MR16
and $9 for a 12 gang MR11. But with a 10,000 hour life I won't have
to replace them for about 100 years of boating. And I don't have to
carry spares. :)

I'll provide info on my retailer and comparative photos to those
interested. Contact me at drewdolak@mindspring.com.

Boat safe.

Something else to consider.  There are now  several brand of LED
flashlights  which do not require flashlights.
I picked up a pair  originally intending to use them  on a camping trip.
However they proved so useful that I now use them everywhere.

With some of these located in a holder at strategic places in the boat,
you may not need to install permanent lighting that runs from a house
battery.  Lacking any battery these will remain ready for use anytime
even years down the road.
