View all threadsHello all,
I'd like to install iReport for use in our omca tenant. I'm looking for is information on where I should install the iReport software and run it from. Does anyone have an example you would be willing to share?
In the documentation, I found these two pages:
http://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/DOC/Notes+on+report+authoring+with+iReport
and
http://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/DOC/How+to+add+a+new+canned+report+-+DRAFT
Thanks!

Hi Al,
iReport can be installed and run from anywhere. It's an application that'll
aid you in creating the report scripts that will be later installed and run
from within your CSpace instance. That said, I generally run it on my work
machine and go through the process of connecting it to a local/development
CSpace PostgreSQL instance that has some test data in it, which can be on
any server that is set up to allow remote access to the db. The wiki docs
give instructions how to set this part up. I believe iReports has a wizard
to guide you through the connection steps and will also test the connection
to check that it works. I think you should try the reader@mydomain.foo with
the 'reader' password as a first step.
Hope this helps.

At a quick glance, Al, it looks like the first of those two
documentation page is - if a bit crude - reasonably up to date, while
the second is outdated. I'll make a notation on that second page to
that effect, referring to the first.
I don't know if there's any particular location on your disk to which
installing iReport makes the most sense, but my colleagues who use it
regularly may wish to comment. My uninformed hunch is that this may
simply be dependent on your operating system and personal preferences.
As mentioned in the first of those two documentation pages,
CollectionSpace is currently using library code from Jasper Reports
5.0.1. My naive understanding is that this means that you should also
download and use iReport Designer 5.0.1, which you can find at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ireport/files/iReport/, but again, you
might wait until my more knowledgeable colleagues respond to confirm
or debunk this belief.
Aron
P.S. We're attempting to stay current with Jaspersoft's releases, and
I'll make a JIRA issue to get us up to the current 5.2.0 release in
CollectionSpace 4.1, a release slated for later this fall.

Hi Al and all,
I've made heavy use of iReport in the last 2 month, and I use it the same way as Jesse does.
IReport is installed and run on my computer (Windows system). I build reports on my computer and test it local with remote data from CS server.
When ready, .jasper files are copied on CS server. That's a quite simple process.
Cheers,
Sébastien
