Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsTug 44 went on icebreaker duty just now. Got the call from Canal Corp
that they are going to drain my section of canal in the morning, so I
cranked her up and started crushing ice to move her into the shoals. The
ice was about an inch thick and did not break easily. Backing up was very
difficult, and required full throttle. Loud crashing noises much like
gunshots and this wierd PINGing noise from the ice. Lotta lurching. Got
the boat where she needs to be in the morning. In the photo you see on
the right side by the dock, where I broke thru the ice and then made the
turn behind the docks. It's already refrozen. The boat is now
semi-beached and will be fully land-bound in the morning. Anti-freeze is
in and I'm ready for winter. The photo is the actual view from my couch.
Life is good.

All I can say is...better you than me friend !
Today it was chilly at our house. Had to put long pants on and a long sleeve
shirt until about noon when it warmed up to 80 degrees. We have the windows
open.
