OB's games

thank you to those of you who showed up this last Saturday for our match vs Queen City.  Thanks to the CSOB's and others who helped us fill a side.

With that said.  We have a game scheduled April 18th against the CSOB's.    I need to have 20 confirmed players or I'm going to cancel the game.

I know this is the Harlequins and this what we have done for 40 years or so but not having a full side ready 5 minutes before the game begins is just not the best way to start a game.    I would also ask that if you leave the field during the game,  let someone know and try to find a replacement.    We started the second half with 13 guys and they got 2 trys before we had 15 players on the pitch again.

One other little thing...  Where are some of our younger OB's?    We were at least 10 years older on average.    Do your wives not allow you to play rugby?  Kids?    What is it with our 35 - 45 year old OB's?

So any OB's that wish to answer or comment  please tell me your thoughts on my little rant and let me know if you want/are able to play.

Thanks, Scotty

I love this club and love Rugby but would rather remember the days the way they were.  Tackling someone who is 50 with a beer belly and Grey hair doesn't make sense to me.  Not being able to tackle someone because he has a purple jersey on makes even less sense.  Would i go out there for an annual tournament we plan for every year, possibly.     Don't take this the wrong way if you still like banging heads.  More power to you.  I would rather sit behind a hot piece of ass at the gym and get a sweat on a Saturday.  Just my two cents.     I will however go watch and drink beer and Cheer my ass off.   Quin love!   Goose

To be clear, Goose, you are not the target demographic that Scotty is referring to.
This call is to all the younger old boys that still want to be active. We get requests all the time to for guys looking to join up to play a few OB games each season. We may have to start recruiting from the other clubs in town for their OBs to field a decent side.

I can tell you from one of the current player old boys that this is one of
the trade-offs of wanting to do the early match. The coaches aren't going
to allow us to play in an Old Boys match prior to a league match.

Hey y'all,

It's been a couple of years but I still consider myself a Quin OB. I live and coach rugby in Utah now but would love to still make it to a few matches! The rub is that the travel is there and I would hate to go that far and not have a team to play on.  I've watched and wanted to join in soon. As a FYI. My boy is the Starting wing for Herriman HS Utah. Kyler Burch. Check him out in the goffrugbyreport.com news report.  He's a beast and would love to join the younger mates after this season. I'm ready to play at 49. Come on young studs!

thank you to those of you who showed up this last Saturday for our match vs Queen City.

Hey y'all, It's been a couple of years but I still consider myself a Quin OB. Scotty,
Sorry I have been out of town for the last few OB matches. I wished I was in town last sat to play. That said I do like to play in them just I tend to travel a lot and am not very reliable. I know some of the other young old boys who would be very useful still are playing. As in Kregg, Alan, Perna, Adam, Hugh, Casey, Aaron etc. So it is difficult for them on game days. It is great to see Rob and Ed Durica out there for some of the younger old boys. Did Klaus play? Who else are we missing for younger old boys? Only one I could think of is Ritchie but I think he is done as well as Mike Smith. It seems it will be just hit or miss for awhile as it is hard to solidify who will be playing and who not. i am not quite sure how to fix it but just wanted to respond so you knew I was listening. haha

I will however go watch and drink beer and Cheer my ass off.

I know I'm not the demographic that Scottys talking about, but I feel (and share) his frustration. I was there on Saturday,  and by the end of the game, I was missing the support of some of the younger Quin OBs. I love the game, and always play to win...but I'd rather play and lose, than not play.

I've watched this thread over the course of the day. I understand all of the reasons why one guy or another can't be there.  Life gets in the way...I get it. But there are a lot of Harlequins out there that don't want to play with the young guns, but could still show up and have a fun run with the boys.  WHERE ARE YOU?

Dust off your boots boys.  It's time to remember what it means to be a Harlequin.

I'll be there on the 28th.  Boots on, ready to play. I hope to see my Harlequin brothers out there too.

Love you guys,
Cheers,
Skipp

I would be remiss if I didn't respond, so here is my story. I came to the Harlequins technically an OB after playing in Dallas and SoCal. I was a new dad and unable to make the necessary time commitment anymore. The OB's were the most active group I could find and I ended up playing 12+ matches that first year starting in the spring and concluding with Ruggerfest. Now, I am 44-7/12 years old and last played with Casper RFC against the Flamingos 3 years ago. After that match I spent 2 months re-assemble-izing my body and trying to decide whether I wanted to keep this it up. The facts are this; I'm married, live in Fort Collins and have two young boys, one who has extra needs and health issues which takes any extra time that might exist. While I would love to still play, my time and responsibility is to the family. Continuing to play rugby kept me level headed during the first couple of years of fatherhood but I've had to switch that outlet to other things. This Saturday my boys will participate in their first U-8 and U-10 rugby clinic here in FoCo and that will have to suffice for now.  Until then, every time I see a can of PBR I will think of you f>ckers as prior to the 'Quins the only time I drank that was in elementary school.
