Does it count, as an offical passage, when the yacht (e.g. Idlewild or Fine
Tolerance) completes the passage only with assistance?  It didn't appear to
me that either yacht would have survived without the assistance of the
Canadian Icebreakers

"Survived" may too strong a word, but "succeeded" in making the
transit might be appropriate, but who can say with certainty that one
yacht or the other would have failed? My guess is that Idlewild and
Fine Tolerance, as others have done before them, might have been
forced to winter over and then try again.

It should be noted that even commercial vessels on occasion require
assistance. The Scott Polar Research Institute as well as the
Canadian Coast Guard consider a transit a transit.
