Local award-winning Taiwanese American filmmaker, Melinda Raebyne, does it again. Her latest documentary, *ELLOS GRITAN LIBERTAD (They Scream Freedom)* premiered at the Social World Film Festival in Italy, where she won Best Director For a Documentary, when it premiered in Italy. As an independent filmmaker, Melinda works intentionally with communities to share local stories that have global resonance and impact. We are fortunate to have her film showing at the Tacoma Film Festival THIS Wednesday night, where Melinda will be in attendance. As a last plea for help, hundreds of Cubans risked it all and exposed the world through social media the inhuman conditions they are living in on the island, in hopes someone would hear them and help. Most of these posts have since been taken down and many of these people have been sentenced to years in prison for simply crying out for help. Melinda was able to get a connection with someone in Cuba who was willing to talk. For months they communicated via apps where he sent exclusive footage and interviews.
