FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 2, 2022
___________

The City of Auburn and the Auburn Arts Commission are pleased to present the work of Lewis J. LaBrashé at the City Hall Gallery, on view November 2, 2022 - January 4, 2023.

Lewis LaBrashé describes himself as an Artist/Expressionist. Inspired by the natural landscapes he encounters while hiking, he loves recreating these in his work. Many of his paintings are directly influenced by the time he spends in nature. LaBrashé feels that working in one medium is too restrictive, so often uses multiple media (including acrylics, resins and pastels) to achieve the desired effect. He writes "Expressionist artists have sought to express the meaning of emotional experience rather than physical reality." His stunning works "present the world solely from a subjective perspective, distorting it radically for emotional effect in order to evoke moods or ideas."

Exhibition Statement:
"As with all things change is never easy. Bringing forth new life I liken these to an inner fire, as a volcano, erupting to lay out a new landscape. A new beginning. Being rich in minerals it is the perfect foundation for new growth!  In time it will create an earthly paradise!"

The City of Auburn and the Auburn Arts Commission are pleased to present the work of Maura Freeman at the Community Center Gallery, on view November 2, 2022 - January 4, 2023

Maura Freeman is a self-taught, Seattle-based photographer and sculptor who transforms natural found-objects into imaginative, unique sculptures which she then photographs. The focus of her art is to honor Mother Nature and the sacred spaces and mysteries she provides all of us. Freeman's goal is that the viewer will use their imagination to be in nature, no matter where they are standing in the moment. Freeman says "The birthplace of my art comes from honoring nature and my imagination. A practice that I find very engaging is called 'Deep Imagination.' It is from the place of deep imagination I find 'Deep Creativity,' joy, and mischievousness."
