Brighter Future: To be heard. To be seen. To be free.
November 7, 2019 – January 11, 2020 at ARTS at King Street StationOpening
reception Thursday, November 7, 2019, 5 – 7 p.m.

Hello Friends  – Please join us for the opening reception for *Brighter
Future: To be heard. To be seen. To be free. *(Nov. 7, 2019 - Jan. 11,
2020) an exhibition at ARTS at King Street Station. The exhibition features
artworks created by more than 50 local artists of color reflecting on
freedom and is organized by the Ethnic Heritage Art Gallery (EHAG) Board.

It can feel impossible to move forward — to move beyond mistrust of the
“other” and into an era of freedom, openness, and expansion of the human
spirit.

When the people impacted most by institutional and structural injustice
redefine the process ourselves, we get free. This exhibition arrives at a
moment when so many have historically had, and continue to have, unequal
access to the freedoms that have been promised to us.

This exhibition is a temperature check — how artists of color, in and
around Seattle, are responding to the current political climate. How can
art engage and motivate people to participate? What visions do artists and
their communities hold for a future grounded in freedom for all?

Through an open call, all members of the Ethnic Artist Roster, plus artists
of color from the general public, were invited to reflect on freedom.
Everyone who responded is included in this exhibition.

Brighter Future’s artists ask you to consider what it means to be heard, to
be seen, and to be free.
