National Coalition for Literacy Discussion List
View all threadsHere is the latest from CEF. Mostly internal news.
Thanks again to all of you for continuing to entrust me as your CEF representative — I was elected vice president this year, and as I said in my statement to the members, I’m really pleased and honored to represent adult ed on the CEF board. I’m also really pleased that Ron Painter from the National Association of Workforce Boards has been appointed to the board, so that workforce is now represented for the first time at the board level.
I will have another email or two to send you before Christmas, but for all of you who are planning to shut down your email machine tomorrow to get a head start on the long weekend, happy holidays!
Jeff

Dear CEF Members:
I. Message from CEF’s new President, Jocelyn Bissonnette
Dear CEF Community,
It’s an honor to serve as CEF President this year. Below is the 2017 Board of Directors. The number of nominations this year was a high-water mark. This is a testament to the strength of our coalition, which is great. We’re going to need that strength in the coming year. I am finalizing committee chair appointments and will announce them in the new year.
Over the last seven and a half years, I have watched this coalition evolve and participated in its growth – we have 35 more member organizations now than when I started. But we have a lot of work to do. We must educate the new Congress and the incoming Administration on the importance of federal education funding, broaden Hill support, lead the fight against sequestration and other funding cuts, and fine-tune a long-term strategy that ensures increased investments in the programs we all care about. Some of my internal priorities for CEF this year include growing the membership, updating our events to have more of a constituent face, improving on-boarding of new CEF members, and engaging current members to build the pipeline of future CEF leaders.
This work all begins at the annual membership retreat. Please plan to attend on the morning of January 27. The retreat will be a forum to kick off our committee work for the year, and have a follow-up discussion on the exciting initiatives you heard from Sheryl at the annual meeting (messaging, website, gala format, etc.). We need your engagement now more than ever.
As a final note, I want to encourage you to reach out directly to me, the officers, and the ACG team to offer suggestions or constructive feedback. I look forward to all the important work ahead of us in 2017.
