Spent the last couple of mornings in the Stonington area and had the following:
1 Winter Wren- Pawcatuck River Wildlife area
1 Brown Thrasher- Pawcatuck River Wildlife area
1 Eared Grebe- Stonington Town Dock. Continuing this morning 100 meters north of observation deck
1 Black-headed Gull- Stonington Town Dock. Continued yesterday just south of the train tracks, pestering Red-breasted Mergansers. Didn't see it this morning but didn't look too hard.
1 Killdeer- Stonington Como fields. Flying around calling
I've also had success Woodcocking in the evenings in various places in SE CT:
Morgan P Chaney Sanctuary in Montville. Had 4 displaying in the fields across from the parking area (which you can't access because it's the area is a New London Water Supply, but you can still here and see the Woodcocks from the side of the road)
Haley Farm SP in Groton seemed to hold the greatest number (~6 displaying). I also had decent looks at one "peenting" right in the middle of the trail after sundown there.
Avery Farm Nature Preserve in Ledyard (AKA Lambtown Rd. Ext on eBird). A conservative estimate of 3 displaying/calling there last night.
Good birding,
