Fred;
Just had one installed last year on my dock. Build it for the future and
your friends !
I installed two 30amp circuits and each with circuit breakers. All plastic,
no rust ever.

2010.22.13.html

The whole circuit is covered by a breaker in the main panel in the house.
But I want to ensure that there is no electricity on the plugs when I plug
in. Therefore I need a breaker at the plug to throw OFF when departing and
then throw back ON after connecting. Breaker box door hinges.
I suggest you should install breaker at the dock. You will be glad you did.
R.

I'm looking for a very simple shore power box.  All it needs is a 30 amp and
a duplex.  No breakers needed here.

What I really want is a sheet metal box with a front cover that swings out,
hinged at the top, to provide some protection from rain, even when the cord
is plugged in.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Fred,

You need a larger box...many of our boats take 50amp service!

Or use your Y adaptor to connect to twin 30amp.....right?
I ran a wire heavy enough to support a 50amp connection if I wanted to
rewire my connector box at the end. Running the wire and conduit is the hard
part. Having the heavier wire also helps keep the voltage up at the end.

So if his boat only needs a single 30amp, he has it. It also can provide
shore power for twin 30 or single 50 (Y adapter needed).

Some boats take 125V/50A service and others
take 125/250V/50A service! BIG DIFFERENCE!
They are NOT compatible!
