Visitors:
Thanks to Chris B for today's count ... and to visitor A. Little who was
down to the hawk watch for the first time.
Weather:
Temps ranged from 18C-22C. Winds were N around 15 km/h, with the occasional
gust, for most of the day, shifting to NW by dayâs end. Cloud cover was
100% to start and tapered only to 85% or so in the afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
The low ceiling hung around for most of the morning and pesky higher clouds
limited the flight until late in the afternoon. Nevertheless, it was a
three-digit day, with American Kestrels and Broad-winged Hawks accounting
for the bulk of that. Merlins made a nice showing, with 3 in rapid
succession near the end of day.
Non-raptor Observations:
Non-raptors were plentiful, with 49 species tallied, including 10 warblers.
Three more Common Nighthawks were also recorded.
Non-raptors included: Canada Goose, Herring Gull, Great Blue Heron,
American Crow, Swainsonâs Thrush, Wood Thrush, Rose-breasted Grosbeak,
Carolina Wren, Scarlet Tanager, European Starling, American Robin, Blue
Jay, American Goldfinch, Gray Catbird, House Wren, Black-capped Chickadee,
Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Chimney Swift, Hairy Woodpecker, Downy
Woodpecker, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Northern Flicker, Yellow-bellied
