Fort Edward Flooding, Again

The New York Canals just got their annual spring floods out of the way
early.  We just had a week of actual hot weather, followed by yesterday's
torrential rains and howling winds, followed by 3 inches of snow last nite
... and then the snow all melted this morning.  The water topped the wall
at the Fort Edward Yacht Basin about 2 feet, and maybe about 1 foot over
the pier at Waterford ... but no real damage anywhere, so all is well.
Whew!

A few photos at the Fort Edward Yacht Basin:

The water has crested and is now dropping.  The folks that control the
lakes and reservoirs that feed into the canals have improved their methods
and were well prepared and did not add to the mess.  Boating season on the
Canals should be all fine and well by may 1st.

My dock is 10 feet above the river level and Lock C-7 on the land cut, so
my level went up only 2-3 inches and I am unaffected.  And now for a nice
glass of red wine or three.

You would think that the folks who paid for the installation of those power
poles would have had them mounted HIGHER knowing that every Spring there is
flooding. There is literally no margin of error even at this flood level,
which is not "drastic".
