Artists exhibit repurposed materials transformed into art at the EnviroHouse
Artists Pierce Elaine Davis, Jenny Fillius and Leo Schmidt will display their works of art Jan. 30 to April 25 at the City of Tacoma EnviroHouse, where artwork made from recycled and salvaged material is showcased.

Davis’ artistic works feature boxes of all shapes and sizes fashioned from reused cardboard, newspaper and twigs collected in her neighborhood. Davis refers to her pieces as bookcases or table treasure chests where people can keep their treasures and keepsakes safe.

Fillius’ art comes from her imagination where anything can trigger an idea -- an overheard expression or story, or maybe something she has seen on her way to work. These imaginative ideas then turn into creative masterpieces made from repurposing used metal food containers gleaned from dumpsters and other sources.

Schmidt’s current project, Lampcycle, was inspired by the beautiful patinas that well-ridden bikes acquire and the passion and loyalty that bicycle owners feel. His creations, fashioned from discarded bicycle parts, include handmade lamps, clocks and other pieces.

Davis, Fillius and Schmidt will be available during the artists’ reception Sunday, Feb. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the EnviroHouse (located at the Tacoma Landfill), 3510 S. Mullen St.

The EnviroHouse art exhibit rotates three times a year and continually seeks applications from artists with recycled-content artwork.
