Dear Colleagues,

I help organising a workshop on social mobilisation with regard to climate
change. Therefore, I`d like to ask whether any of you could
recommend.literature reviews or other key papers about digital media and
social mobilisation, particularly with regard to climate change action.

Thank you very much,
Olaf

Hello Olaf:

Given your interests, you may be interested my forthcoming piece with
Marije Boekkoi, "Mobilizing Friends and Strangers: Understanding the Role
of the Internet in Days of Action" at Information, Communication &
Society. The piece looks at mobilization and digital media using the case
of the Step It Up Day of Action against climate change as its case.

I believe the piece is coming out in the next issue.

Take care,

Dana Fisher

Hi Olaf,

I would recommend looking at the work of Eric Paulos (http://www.paulos.net/). He has done research and written about the use of mobile media as sensing and mapping technologies, e.g. in order to measure air quality. While not directly 'mobilizing', there is an interesting feedback loop into potential behavioral change when people are becoming more aware of their environment through visualizations and participation in measuring.

A few months ago I was at an interesting workshop called "eco-mapping" which dealt with the use of mobile media and the environment: http://www.picnicnetwork.org/page/54395/en. There's quite a lot of interesting things going on at the moment in this field.

Good luck & best: michiel
