The first-winter Black-legged Kittiwake first seen briefly in Cobourg
harbour a couple of days ago was refound today and is swimming close to
shore just off the west parking lot.
The harbour gulls are spectacular today - an estimated 5000+ total packed
onto the ice, including 10+ Glaucous, 12+ Iceland, at least 3 ad. Lesser
Black-backed, 1+ ad. Thayer's. I counted 44 Great Black-backed with one
third of the flock still to cover when they all flew up before resettling.
Scaup, Redheads, Canvasbacks, one coot etc.etc.
Directions:
Exit 474 from Hwy.401, south on Division Street to the harbour, drive around
to the large west parkinglot.
