Mac,

You have it exactly right.  The NJ State Bird is the mosquito.  Up here we
have horsefly season which lasts a few weeks sometimes, but they are not
that numerous.

Even my cats like it better here, one of them is a Maine Coon Cat, and he
used to suffer terribly in the hot Jersey summers.  Our first winter here,
I spotted him laying in a snowdrift in the yard.  I thought he was dead and
I ran over to see.  He was taking a nap was all.  He bags several mice a
week even in January.

The winter is not as bad as ya might think.  I have 600 feet of sidewalk
to shovel, but the village does it for me.  And being at the corner of a
county route and a state route, there is no shortage of snowplows coming
thru.

Northern boaters have to be a lot tougher than their
southern brethren!  It's sort of like the answer to folks
who ask why anybody would WANT to live in the
Dakotas and other northern states. The answer is
simply, "No wimps!"

New Jersey, Fred?  Isn't that the place where mosquito
is the state bird?

Neat pics, Fred. I've seen most of them previously.

Do they still have Stewart's Dairy Stores up there?

Used them a lot while a student at SUNY Albany
1958-1960.  Got a B.S. there AND a wife; she from
Seneca Falls (lived just across US-20/NY-5 from the
Seneca/Cayuga branch of Erie canal) and I from the
Chautauqua Lake area (Lakewood).
