"Single handing" means you always do the mid-ship line first so you can
leave the starboard engine in idle forward hard left rudder and then do
the bow and stern lines. I also find myself just looping over the dock
cleats or around the pilings so as to be able to slip them from the boat
since I tend to leave very early.
What makes me absolutely crazy is people who don't know how to cleat a
line properly.

I'm assuming this is if you are tying up starboard-side-to? And for a
port-side tie you leave the port engine idling with hard right rudder?
