FYI — the 1296 beacon was pounding in here one day this week. I think it was Thursday or yesterday. It was evidently riding the crest of the cold front that has moved in. Of course now I can’t hear a peep out of it!!

Yes, when the band is open, the beacon really is strong. I can hear it weakly some days. I would say more than half the time I can’t hear it at all. I use my SDR setup to watch for it. I have two on line now, a Softrock VHF Ensemble II for 2M and the RF Space SDR-14. I have had the SDR-14 for ten years, but it has been on the shelf for the last five of those. I got curious as to how it compares to the Softrock. They are within a couple of dB of each other. Of course the SDR-14 has more features like noise power measurement, which I will use when I get my EME system assembled.
