FYI — the 1296 beacon was pounding in here one day this week.  I think it was Thursday or yesterday.  It was evidently riding the crest of the cold front that has moved in.  Of course now I can’t hear a peep out of it!!

HI Dave...

Thanks for the signal report. Seems like it's always feast or famine, eh?

Hi Tom,

Yes, when the band is open, the beacon really is strong.  I can hear it weakly some days.  I would say more than half the time I can’t hear it at all.  I use my SDR setup to watch for it.  I have two on line now, a Softrock VHF Ensemble II for 2M and the RF Space SDR-14.  I have had the SDR-14 for ten years, but it has been on the shelf for the last five of those.  I got curious as to how it compares to the Softrock.  They are within a couple of dB of each other. Of course the SDR-14 has more features like noise power measurement, which I will use when I get my EME system assembled.

Good to hear from you.

Dave
