David,

Just what Bill said!

I have seen long distance cruisers travel in kayaks and canoes.  One time I
saw some folks going down the Hudson River on a floating dock!  It had a
tarp ballooned in front of it acting as a sail.

Yes it is completely crazy, and yes you could do it.

Just consider there are some places where you must travel in open ocean.  I
wish you all the luck in the world, and keep us all posted!

The ultimate loop cruiser remains this boat:

My friend and I (both retired and previous Trawler owners) are considering
doing the Great Loop in very small boats (under 12 ft).  Is this crazy to
even think about? or is it doable given the types of water that we will
have during such a trip.  We are somewhat experienced boaters but no
experience with the Great Loop. We obviously would not be living on the
boats, but just using them to get from point A to B to C, etc. Any advice
appreciated.

David,

If you come up the St Lawrence river in Lake St Francis at Buoy D68, go
directly north 1/2 mile and stop in. I will accommodate you for as long as
you wish. Give it a try.
