Hello Gators,
Do you have
a pain in the neck (or back or other bodily part)? Chances are pretty good that you do if you
are a triathlete. Chiropractic treatment
can be very beneficial for triathletes for both injury treatment and, better
yet, injury prevention. You have the
opportunity to learn all about this topic this coming Monday at our next club
seminar that will be presented by Dr. Mike Connelly of Centre for Healing Arts,
which is our club’s lead sponsor and is located right in Limerick; Mike is also
a club member.
Many Gators
are already taking advantage of Dr. Connelly’s services. So be sure to join us for what should be a
very informational and entertaining event.
Here are the specifics…What date? Monday, August 3What time? Starts at 7:00pm and will be completed
before the 8:30pm Tri Swim workout (so you can get two for the price of one!)Where? Spring-Valley YMCA, Room 2 (same

Accomplishments: Last weekend’s
results included a couple of events in the state of New York…Sunday, 7/26:Grimaldo’s Mile (Coney Island, NY): Nabil Radouane participated in a swim event for
the 3rd consecutive weekend.
This time Nabil won his age group… PODIUM!!... and finished in the top 35%
overall. Additionally, Nabil sort of became
a professional athlete in the process as he found a $1 bill during the swim
becoming the 1st Gator to be paid for his efforts. Great effort, Nabil!!Ironman Lake Placid (Lake Placid, NY): We have seven Gators that heard
those coveted words last Sunday including five for the first time (and they are
already considering options for their next Ironman event… Mont-Tremblant 2017
in Quebec, Canada?)…First Time IronmenAdrienne FosterDon MackDave MarineTiff PflugerTim PflugerRepeat IronmenByron Solvason (6th Ironman finish)Vince Bellino (2nd Ironman finish)Jeff Spillane despite very little time to train due to work commitments
(piloting freighter ships around the world and teaching new students to become
ship pilots) still took on the challenge.
After a great swim, Jeff was able to complete 108 miles of the 112 mile
bike course and narrowly missed the cutoff time for the bike finish. Jeff, not to be denied, is already
considering options for his next Ironman event… Great effort, Jeff!!Danny Friend… We missed you!! Looking
forward to doing one with you sometime in the future!
Who’s Next?: This Gator
is looking to get a piece of the rock (and join the 1st time Ironman
finishers group); best wishes for a safe and successful event!…Sunday, August 2: Ironman Boulder
(Boulder, CO): Eric Afre will be taking the high altitude challenge. You can follow him live through the Ironman
Boulder website… http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/events/americas/ironman/boulder.aspx#axzz3hT4tcgNo...
Go, Eric!!
Help Wanted: We’d like
to turn last year’s single event into an annual tradition (and good promotional
opportunity for our club) by running an aid station at the Steelman Triathlon
taking place on Sunday, August 9. We
need a minimum of 6 volunteers to host our very own 10K run course turnaround Gators
aid station. If you can assist (or if you
have family, friends, or even strangers that would be there to support our
efforts), please reply back so that we can see if there is enough support for
us to commit. The specifics:Location: Lake Nockamixon State Park
(Quakertown, PA)Start Time: We officially have to be staffing
the station by 8:15am, but they could also use help with body marking starting
at 5am (or as early as you can get there)… Our primary interest is the aid
station, so if 5am is too early, but you can do the aid station, please let us
know.Completion Time: Everything should be wrapped up
by around 10:30am.Will I be able to see the race?: You will have time to see the
starts for both the Olympic (typically around 7am) and Sprint (typically around
7:30am) starts and will also be done in time to see the awards ceremony
(typically around 10:30am-11am).
Elections: Our club
officer elections will take place during the second half of August (August
17-31). If you would like to nominate a
candidate for any of the positions listed below (2 year commitment starting on
January 1, 2016), please reply back and we can include their name on the ballot
that will be distributed on August 17.
Officer positions include…PresidentVice-PresidentTreasurerSecretary
Mark Your Calendars:Upcoming Club Workouts...Saturday, August 1, 7am: Easy to moderate pace 2 hour bike ride followed by an "at your own pace" 30 minute run led by Don M. Meet at the Longford Park/Reynolds Dog Park in Oaks for a prompt (well, at least as prompt as we usually are) 7am start.
Upcoming Club Events...Sunday, August 9: Steelman (Quakertown, PA): As usual, we’ll have a ton of
athletes competing in the sprint and Olympic events… 15 at last count.Sunday, August 16: Challenge Pocono Mountains: We have at least 16 athletes
participating as individuals and on relay teams. If you are interested in doing either, it’s
not too late, just let us know!Saturday, September 12, Diamondman Challenge: This event features all sorts of
races… Sprint and half Ironman distance triathlons and duathlons, off-road
triathlon and duathlon, and kids triathlon and duathlon. We’d like for it to be a family event and
we’re planning to host a few kids training sessions over the summer so that we
can have a pack of Jr. Gators participate.
Reserve the date on your calendar and stay tuned for more details coming
soon!
Go Gators!
