If this was an attempt at a joke, not funny in any manner. Hopefully it was

A "joke" carries with it the same racist innuendo.  There is ABSOLUTELY NO means by which this can be construed as acceptable or permissible in any public, and for that matter private, forum.  At 9am in the morning, I'm already disgusted, disappointed and ashamed as a citizen.

See today's Washington Post article on slavery:  The United States, per capita, has a very low rate of slavery: just 0.02 percent, or one in every 5,000 people. But that adds up to a lot: an estimated 60,000 slaves, right here in America."  http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2013/10/17/this-map-shows-where-the-worlds-30-million-slaves-live-there-are-60000-in-the-u-s/

I will state how I took it. I viewed it as a sarcastic slam against racists
who think blacks commit most crimes. Maybe I'm wrong, only the poster can
say. I also viewed it as a mistake to post. I also strongly believe if you
have an issue with a post you should contact the moderator directly, not
post to everyone. He has many years of experience handling these things and
has pretty darn good judgment. CTBirds is freer from public squabbles than
many forums and I believe most members would like to keep it that way.

If that is how you took it, then that is how you took it.  It seems a lot
of other people took it differently.  You seem to be unique in your support
of Paul.  (I know you said you are not condemning or condoning it, but you
are definitely supporting him.)  But I disagree about not posting the
feedback to everyone.  For those who interpreted the comment as racist
bigotry, expressing those feelings publicly will help to discourage others
from making similar comments.  Racism should not be hidden from public
view, it should be exposed and dealt with and talked about so that everyone
can learn from it.
