The other cat that I tested after the Sydney International Boat Show
was the King Cat http://www.kingcats.com.au
11.5m length and 5.3m beam.
This is a very voluminous boat. Easy to spend a long time on it, I
should think.
The flybridge is also huge, the main helm being there.
The best stainless steel work I have ever seen. Large oval sections
nearly throughout.
The flybridge was fully surrounded in clears. I think they would be a
pain to keep clean.
Good sized cockpit but no duckboard or davits on this boat, so dinghy
carriage would be a problem.
Good galley area and dining table in the saloon.
The main bench top of the galley was polished timber, which is
ridiculous. It should be corian or similar.
Vestigial throttle controls in the saloon but no real helm position.
The starboard main cabin had its bed skewed so that it could be
called an "island bed". Side access was almost non-existent, so not
much was achieved. But there was room for a small en-suite.
The engines were 160HP 6 cylinder Steyers. These are quite de-tuned.
as this model is offered up to 260HP.
This is a great engine and would be my pick in most 30-40 foot cats.
The day we went out was blustery with a reported 6m swell outside the
heads.
We didn't leave the seclusion of the harbour but as we approached the
heads we were getting rough conditions.
I was impressed. The ride was soft and stable. Even on the taller
than normal flybridge, the motion was much better than I expected.
This is a good boat at a very good price. There are many little
things that I would change if I were buying it.
But the King is on my (not too short) list. They should be very
successful with this model.
Gary
Gary,
Was flybridge access via a ladder or stairs?
