Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsMany of us have an insurance restriction that prohibits us from taking our
boats below Mobile AL before Nov 1, the conclusion of hurricane season. We
are insured with BOAT/US and have this restriction. As a result, we have
been planning and executing our Loop trip accordingly.
Having read in the MTOA listserv that some other insurance companies were
allowing their boaters to travel below Mobile AL before Nov 1, I called
BOAT/US and inquired if they would allow us to travel below Mobile AL in
October provided that there were no hurricanes on the horizon. They returned
my call today and approved it with conditions.
First, we must call BOAT/US Insurance a few days in advance to confirm that
the weather conditions for hurricanes are acceptable and to give them time
to add a rider to our insurance policy to permit this travel.
This means that we can now head into the Gulf of Mexico and ICW below Mobile
AL during October since it appears that this is a light year for hurricanes.
We are currently on a side trip on the Tennessee River to Chattanooga. When
we return, we will immediately begin down the TennTomBigbee towards Mobile
AL in October.
