In 1989 the 3870 became known as the 3888. In 1986 the Mitsubishi engines were dropped for more desirable Cummings.
Any boat used on the loop should allow for rapid access to the side decks from the helm for lock line handling which this model lacks.
A better choice would be the 4588 Motor Yacht whose pilothouse allows for easy access from the helm to the side deck through a dedicated sliding door.

Good points Chris I found that using the lower helm I could single hand the lock lines on the 38 and it cost less and was easier for me to handle
