The sinking of the 36' trawler that was anchored next to us is hopefully
the last of the incidents. We've seen two others in the last few weeks.
Prior to this sinking, on our way up the ICW from Beaufort SC, we anchored
at the mouth of a creek. Next morning we saw a couple young males swimming
across the ICW, away from us and a PFD which seems held in place, holding
onto a bean bag chair... odd we thought. Soon thereafter, a local fire boat
pulled up to the PDF, hauled in on the line, and pulled up a 16' aluminum
outboard-powered boat. Seems the fellas somehow swamped the boat just abeam
of us and we hadn't heard a thing. And, just a week before that, during a
bit of high winds while in Beaufort, SC, a 35' sailboat that was anchored
close-by dragged, ending up on the rocks, bow down, 8' out of the water. Okay,
you say, some folks just have bad luck, then others say, some folks bring
it with them, and please stay away. Na, we just see it, not bring it!
Happy yachting everyone!
