White House Offers Interactive Online Map of Historically Black Colleges
September 19, 2011, 1:01 pm
The White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities launched a new Web site today that maps every historically black college in the United States. Users can click on a college and see how many degrees it awards each year and how many it needs to award to contribute toward President Obama's goal of making the country No. 1 in degrees conferred by 2020. For instance, Alcorn State University, in Mississippi, awards 459 degrees annually and needs to graduate 1,518 more students-that's a cumulative rate of 27.6 more students per year-by 2020 to help meet the goal, according to the site.
