Hello List Members -

We are Bruce and Nancy Karstedt.  We live in Alva, FL, 18 mi. east of Ft. Myers, on the Caloosahatchee River, a part of the ICW.  Our purpose for settling here two years ago, after traveling North America for nine years by  motorcoach, was in preparation for docking a large boat.  We were thinking about a trawler, but then last fall, we saw a boat that seemed to suit our wants and needs, and about which we both were passionate.

In Nov., 2004, we placed our order for a Prowler Cat 420, manufactured in South Africa, by Chatercats. The website is: chartercatssa.com, and needs some updating at this point due to many recent changes.  They are moving from the manufacture of 40 ft. and 45 ft. power cats, to building 38, 42, 48, and 60 ft. models.  Our boat will  be delivered in February, 2006. That gives us some time to learn from all of you, who know more than we about boats and boating.  We have owned boats ranging from 19 ft. to 27 ft., so with lots of encouragement and knowledge from cruising friends and many Power Squadron courses, we plan to tackle local waters, coastal Florida, ICW up the east coast and then the Bahamas, cautiously, and probably in that order.  We look forward to lively list discussions as the increasing interest in and popularity of power cats continues.

Congratulations, Bruce and Nancy, on acquiring a Prowler Cat 420!

What other power catamarans did you consider? Why did you decide against them?
