There were six Arctic Terns at Broad Brook Reservoir in Cheshire as of 6pm. Seen from Reservoir Rd.

Any wisdom or guess if they'd be there tomorrow, Sat.?
Or other news of more southern birds I sure would be appreciated.

My guess is that the larger lakes/reservoirs will be better, but go farther
inland than where the birds can sense the shoreline. Once they get “close
enough” they’ll probably push through to the coast.
Also, they might follow the rivers to the sea, so if you want to spot
Arctic Terns in transit, set up vigil at a good large river vista.
If you want to look for stuck terns, check the larger inland reservoirs
away from rivers.
Also… my two cents is that these ARE storm-driven birds. Just because it
wasn’t raining much here doesn’t mean it wasn’t a storm. This was a monster
low pressure sea system (with multiple houses finally succumbing to the
Atlantic on the Outer Banks of NC this week). Arctic Terns are a marine
species, and these unlucky chaps were definitely driven to make a detour by
this system. Unrelenting northeast winds for that many days… it puts a dent
in your migration route. Same reason why I still don’t have any House Wrens
setting up shop here in New Haven yet!
But the pattern is changing, and there’s going to be a huge pulse of avian
movement in the next 3 days.
Great time to get out, probably everywhere.

Mark Aronson and I ran into each other at the reservoir in Cheshire, and alas we saw no terns, with bins or scopes. Nothing flying around, and nothing on the water except for three ruddy ducks, some geese and mallards, and lots of swans (on nest!).
