The latest word after discussions with Canal officials is that the work has
been going better than expected, no major mishaps, and doubled crews at
some locations and good weather.  There is a possibility of an opening by
Wednesday July 17th, or Thursday the 18th.

This assumes good weather and no problems.  As always, your mileage may
vary.  I'll make another update probably on Monday.

Someone else is publishing Canal Corp's "to do list" ... don't assume that
once those items are completed the canal will open.  There are many
additional items not on that list, and more items get added daily.  That
list just isn't useful.

It's a beautiful evening up here on the canals, 74 degrees and dry this
evening at 8 PM, and going down to 60 tonite in Fort Edward.  Looks like
the heat wave finally broke.
