Agree that there is no magic in 2 wave lengths--and that sea states are not stable--even in consistant wind velocity. The really dangerous waves often are summation waves, which are superimposed on the usual cycle. Also at sea, as on the coast waves come in cycles of smaller then larger waves, then smaller etc.
What seems logical is to extend the series drogue concept to a series of larger drogues or sea anchor off the bow. This might be easier to deploy than a single large chute.
