A while ago, I sent a question about electronic dipstick for checking oil
And I discovered this :
Click : "purchase" and "vehicular"
Check the Bluetooth model at 399$
I'd like to know if it makes sense to you and if it is suitable for our
little boats.
My actual dipstick is extremely difficult to reach and it can't be installed
on the other side of the engine (Ford Lehman 50 HP), so that's why I'm
looking for an electronic solution. If you know any other similar products,
please let me know.
Thanks
Bryan,
PS : I also found
www.e-dipstick.com/
but it is obviously only useful for a tank.
Bryan, there are remote sight glasses that also do double duty to identify the level of the oil. Don't know the name or web sites, but maybe someone else on the list can offer it.

Dear all,
I am confused as to why you need something like this. Does your engine
consume so much oil that in a normal day, you need to be worried about
engine oil level?
Or is it leaking so much that you need this capability..
Or, you plan to travel for weeks at a time without stopping and
therefore, need this capability.
I check my level the evening before be are scheduled to leave, and
once per week otherwise. I have the dipstick marked as to what the
level is when at 1600 rpm and with the level already marked when at
rest, I can "estimate" how much oil I would need to add if I had to
while underway.
I am slightly adverse to these "gadgets" as it is just something else
to break..
IMHO, just my 2¢s etc etc etc
Not worth the paper this is not printed on...
Lee
I understand dip stick location difficulty but even then, I would be
wary of an electronic / electrical solution....
I would pursue a mechanical modification, even an unorthodox one (like
a removable covered hole in a deck or hatch to reach thru to get to
the dipstick...)

Why not extend it with a plastic tube and a longer dipstick to where
it's accessible? Nothing says you must use the OEM setup. You can set
the oil level to the proper point, relocate the setup, then mark the new
one with a stamp, or as on my Cummins, there are simply two notches
ground into the edge of the dipstick.
$400 for a Bluetooth solution? Really??
