Hello All!

I am interested in a 40 foot power catamaran for cruising the
Caribbean and perhaps placing in charter service. The skipper and I
would like to have all the amenities we presently have on our Hunter
Passage 450
(http://www.sailboatowners.com/classified/ownerview.tpl?owno=1109340037707267&fno=0&brsku=1109340037707267.2&bd=Hunter&p1=0&p2=1000000&xs=All&l1=45&l2=45&active=T&sb=placed&dr=de&ad=all)
with some improvements. These improvements include higher speed,
better visibility, more accommodations, shorter length, and most
importantly, shallower draft.

I have surveyed the field of production power cats, visited several
boat shows, chatted with various designers and power cat owners,
subscribed to many magazines and read all the archives on this list.
One boat seems to meet all our criteria. The Schoinning Designs
Alaskan 410.
http://www.schionningdesigns.com.au/www/welcome.cfm (Look in Our
Designs, Alaskan Power Cats).

I don't think I can build this vessel, so I'm looking for a boat
builder. In the best of all possible worlds, this builder would meet
these criteria:

  1. Be within a reasonable driving distance from Fort Myers, Florida
to allow me to visit the build.
  2. Be able to build to ABYC standards.
  3. Have intimate familiarity with the Schionning designs.
  4. Have build several vessels, either sail or power, using epoxy and
    DuFlex. http://www.atlcomposites.com/
  5. Have detailed records of these builds to be able to demonstrate
    building to specification and budget.
  6. Be able to demonstrate the performance of these builds.
  7. Provide references for these builds and introduction to the present owners.
  8. Answer all the annoying questions and changes that I can come up
with and still keep the job on schedule and on budget. :)

I am open to all suggestions the list members may have to help me
find a boat builder

Thank you in advance for your kind consideration.

He does not meet all your criteria, but do not overlook Felix Herrin
at Catman Cats in Virginia:

I suspect Felix has been building catamarans on a custom basis longer
than anyone else in the U.S.--and he has real-world experience
cruising cats.
