Loading USGS and NGA as Place Authorities

I'm embarking on a project to load parts of the United State Geologic Survey (USGS) geonames and the National Geospace Intelligence Agency (NGA) geonames into CSpace as Place authority files.  The most straight forward way to do this seems to be with a Python script against the CSpace API.  Before I start, I wanted to see if anyone else has done something similar and would have any advice.  The process seems straight forward enough, and I'll post my scripts on GitHub when I'm done.

Thanks in advance,

Peter

Peter,

We have done a fair amount of Python programming against the CSpace API,
both here at UCB (e.g. the various Django project in
https://github.com/cspace-deployment) and at some other projects (e.g. the
Walker Art Center https://github.com/walkerart/CollectionSpace-Import)

Would love to talk more about your intentions, and to see what you come up
with.

Thanks for the pointers to the projects, John.  The Walker Art CSpace import will be particularly useful.

Chad/Richard: I was noticing in the minutes of the last technical council meeting that there was a call for a page that consolidated details about migrating/importing data into CollectionSpace.  I found this page on the Wiki -- https://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/collectionspace/Imports+Service+Home https://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/collectionspace/Imports+Service+Home -- that has been helpful so far, but the history of that page goes back into 2012.  Is there another page on the wiki that I'm missing, or does the recent update (June 2015) to that page represent that work?

Thanks, all.
