This book appears to have been remaindered out. It did not sell well.
But for $15 or so, I would estimate it is well worth having. Keep in
mind that you may not be able to put into practice the techniques
presented, but at least you will know how the coast guard does it. And
it will give you ideas.....

Keith:
Thanks for the link.
It looks like the manual was updated in 2003.
Here is a link to that version:

The book appears to be based on the material as noted in the detail
above. The PDF material from the web site is about 1200 pages. The book
is not 1200 pages, I am sure but can find no details. The PDF is not
indexed with links and is not assembled into one piece. So you takes
your choices. I would take the book if I wanted a paper copy.

Mike,
It sure is available in one piece. See:
www.uscg.mil/ccs/cit/cim/directives/CIM/CIM_16114_5C.pdf
Don't try to download that however unless you have a broadband connection. The
full 888 page pdf file is 30.7 Mbytes in size!
Kevin
I have a copy of the book. It is 468 pages including the index. It is well
illustrated and worth the read. It was $29.95 from Powell books online. PDFs
are great and all, but outside a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Of
course inside a dog it is too dark to read.
Man! I've been waiting years to use that line (thanks Groucho).
Regards,

Hello,
I have an older three line, dual helm capilano hydraulic steering system.
This past weekend I noticed some hydraulic fluid on the deck under the pump
on the upper helm. I Did not have time to check this out in detail yet, but
will do so next weekend. In the meantime, does anyone have any comment on
what might cause the leak and where it might be coming from. The pump is
installed with a vertical shaft and it is at the highest level in the
system. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
