thanks andy! i have been using social explorer ever since it became available in all my classes. this new version makes it even easier to segue to the census site itself which had always been a problem of 'translation' for both undergrad and graduate students. there are many professors and researchers who will also benefit from it as few have been able to navigate some of the non-social explorer sites. best for the holidays! jerry
also... note that the nycdcp (joe salvo) has put out the newest newest new yorkers which i also use for both classes and research. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/census/nny.shtml the 2000 version is also available for download at the site.

Social Explorer and Census Bureau Collaborate on Census Explorer
Social Explorer collaborated with the Census Bureau to create Census Explorer, a new visualization project, that launches today in connection with the release of the latest American Community Survey data (the five-year file from 2008 to 2012).
Powered by Social Explorer, Census Explorer opens up data to the public through interactive maps developed by Social Explorer. The site's easy-to-use online tools encourage users to explore demographic change from 1990 to the present, both nationwide and in their neighborhoods. Visitors can examine variables related to population, seniors, foreign born, education, labor force, housing, and income.
Please visit www.census.gov/censusexplorer, and check out Social Explorer's own mapping and reporting tools for more in depth data and visuals.
