Hello Georgs and Power catters,
Thanks for asking. I wrote something about the Gecko Gecko on the Trawler
list about 5 years ago and never thought about re-introducing her when you
started the Power cat list.
Designer, builder etc.:
The Euphorie 40 was built by Jeantot Marine in France. Now Alliaura Marine
http://www.alliaura.com/ they also manufacture the Privilege sailing
Catamarans and the TransCat power catamaran. The Gecko Gecko is a 1992 Model
which I purchased in St. Marteen in May 2000. She is Hull 155( I do not know
if they started at 1 or 100 or 154). I think they use the same mold for the
hulls of the Transcat that they currently make. They made a Euphorie 44 that
is really the same boat with a hull extension. They still made the Euphorie
in 2000 but now the only power cat they make is the Transcat. I think the
Naval architect is Marc Lombard. If someone wants to find out more about her
visit my website www.geckoyachtcharters.com.
She is a very high tech boat with Kevlar glass in critical points and light
weight materials through out. The systems are very well put together and
kind of easy to diagnosis (knowing French would help). I have added a 110V
system through some large step down transformers. I also kept the 240V
system in tack so we can go just about anywhere. We added Solar Panels so
that we can leave the freezer and refrig running when we leave her for a
couple of days or if someone knocks the shorepower cable out. I upgraded the
watermaker and just about everything else. I added a fly bridge enclosure
because contrary to popular belief it can be cold in Southern California.
Why did we pick a Euphorie:
I have always been a catamaran nut from the first outrigger sailing
catamaran I built in high school in the early 60's and kept behind the Santa
Monica breakwater to owning one of the first Hobie 14s. We had a Snowgoose
37 sailing cat when we lived in Scotland in the 80s. When we returned to
California we had a Defever trawler for many years but when my daughters
reached middle school age we needed something a bit faster to get us back
and forth to our mooring at Emerald Bay on Catalina Island and meet their
school requirements. I saw a Euphorie 40 at the San Diego boat show in 1992
or 93 when they were first introduced and loved the layout of the boat and
it being a catamaran I liked the stability features but thought it was out
of our price range. Emerald Bay can be a rather bumpy anchorage so we wanted
a vessel that did not roll much (I had to use 5 flopper stoppers on our
Defever 41), the Gecko Gecko with her 22 foot beam sits there like a card
table. In 2000 I spotted the Gecko Gecko on the internet and on a lark
contact the Catamaran Company that at one time listed her for sale. We
negotiated, I cashed in some air miles and went and took a look in St
Martin. She had been on the hard for 3 years while the previous owner
decided weather to sell or keep her after the Charter Company that had been
maintaining her folded. She needed a lot of work. I spent 2 months putting
her back together with the idea of going to Ft. Lauderdale on her own
bottom. But we ran out of time before Hurricane season so I took her to St.
Thomas and put her on a Dockwise vessel to Florida. In Florida we did a lot
more work on her while also cruising the Bahamas and the Keys every couple
of weeks flying from California. After 8 months in Ft Lauderdale area, we
put her on another Dockwise vessel and took her to Southern Mexico. From
there I brought her to Huntington Beach, California. Where I have pretty
much finished getting her together (if you can ever do that to a boat) We
ended up replacing the original engines that I had been nursing along. Which
was a real challenge because of their location in the middle of each hull
with out easy access. Under the Galley on the port side and under the Salon
settee on the Starboard. Aesthetically the boat has a unique kind of look,
kind of like a sportfisher, I am not real wild about the slopped foredeck
and would prefer more of a traditional square house type of look, but
overall we are very pleased with her and some day when the kids are off to
college hope to take her to the PNW for a bit and then back to Mexico
before the Grand kids start showing up.
Available for charter:
Yes, she is available for skippered charters in Southern California waters.

Hey, Randy!
How about a few lines of information about Euphorie?
Who was the designer? Builder? How many have been built? Are they
still in production?
What attracted you to Euphorie over other makes?
Do you still offer charters on your boat?
