and Rigging Class. The class will run from January 9th, 2012, through
March 23rd, 2012 in Port Hadlock WA. Additional information is available on our
website at > www.nwboatschool.org < .
Our Sailmaking and Rigging course is a unique educational opportunity.
Whether learning to take care of your own sails and rigging, that of your
organization, or whether you want to begin a career in the sailmaking and
rigging fields, this program is for you.
Our instructors are highly experienced and have all worked or currently
work in the trades. Sean Rankins, our Master Sailmaker, has over 35 years of
experience in the craft. You will get the best training available, in the
best environment available. Class sizes are intentionally kept small so that
our students get practical hands-on training in all aspects of the craft.
Students will spend three months in our sail loft, in a teaching
environment. Since we are building sails not only for the topsail schooner SV SPIRIT
OF DANA POINT but for the Port Townsend-based topsail schooner SV
ADVENTURESS during this course, you will get hands-on experience on the ship as
well.
The Olympic Peninsula is a very special area. Located just 35 miles from
Seattle, the Peninsula is famed for its maritime culture and heritage, its
vibrant arts and crafts communities, and the sheer rugged beauty of our
coastlines and mountains. The marine trades are a constant presence here.
There are many busy boat yards that employ people in all fields of the trades -
you'll find boat builders, sailmakers, riggers, systems specialists,
canvas makers, boat designers, surveyors, and more. They are all here, and many
are nationally recognized.
We welcome your questions and encourage you to apply early for the 2012
Sailmaking and Rigging class.
Sincerely,
Pete Leenhouts
