2/25/2019 - West Rock Ridge, Woodbridge, CT — The adult female Common Raven was seen in incubation in the inaccessible cliff nest and remained in the nest undisturbed. The adult male raven was in his sentinel tree out from the nest crevice, and he also remained in place. The raven nest was very incomplete on Sunday, February 17, my last visit to West Rock Ridge. Egg-laying thus is estimated to have begun by ca. February 22-24. The first opportunity for counting eggs in the nest will indicate when egg-laying began, as one egg per day is laid serially up to a maximum of 6 eggs. Also present: 2 adult Bald Eagles in close flight as they circled over Konold’s Pond. Three Eastern Bluebirds at ridge top, one feeding briefly on Baldwin Drive. Five Black Vultures flying NW over the ridge top. Extremely high winds at all times.
