New Public Art Opportunity: Jumping Space
Deadline to Apply: September 3, 2023
Budget: $75,000 for design, artwork fabrication and installation. The City of Bellevue will separately fund and manage engineering, permitting, and foundation construction.
Eligibility: Eligible artists must not have completed a public art project with a budget above $25,000 and must live in Island, King, Kitsap, Pierce, San Juan and Snohomish counties, WA. Artists must be able to travel to Crossroads, Bellevue, to visit the park and later to install their designs by the end of 2024. The selected artist must also meet the City’s mandatory insurance coverage by time of contracting.
The City of Bellevue has a new public art opportunity geared towards 3-dimensional artists that typically work in the studio/gallery space but want to break out into public art. Entitled “Jumping Scale”, this opportunity is a chance for an artist to see their artwork at a new scale, in the outdoors and in many cases, in a new medium. As we are looking for an artist that typically creates 3-dimensional artworks and is either completely new to, or somewhat inexperienced with, public art, this opportunity is intended to be a mentoring opportunity for the selected artist to work with the City’s project manager throughout all the steps and considerations that go into designing, fabricating, and installing a public artwork. An example of an artist this opportunity could be good for is an artist that typically makes ceramic pieces and their work could be transformed into a larger scale artwork in a material suitable for an outdoor public park.
