Christmas Book
Idea:  Mary Umstots book is not a log of
their voyage as are many other books.  It
tells stories about herself and her husband and the people and places they
went
on their 50,000 nautical mile , 10 year voyage from Seattle to the
Mediterranean
and back.  Mary, the Admiral, went on
every mile travelled by Teka III, a now 30-year old passagemaker, designed by
Robert Beebe with improvements from the builder, Knight & Carver.  She gained
her sea legs on the Pacific coast
with its sometimes giant seas, cruised through the Western Caribbean on to
Florida and the ICW to Maine.  Back to
the Bahamas, then crossed the Atlantic as a lone powerboat, with a couple of
sailboats as buddy boats.  In the Med
they circumnavigated both the Med and the Black Sea, spending five years
enjoying the history, food, and people.
The trip back across the Atlantic was uneventful, except for three late
season tropical storms.  Two were experienced
in port, one to be avoided at sea.
Finally they travelled the Windward and Leeward Islands, Columbia,
Panama and then back up the Pacific Coast.
