ZeitBike 2010: Kinetic Interventions
Budget: $1,000 per commissioned piece
Deadline: March 19, 2010
In recognition of National Bike Month, The City of Tacoma and the Tacoma Art Museum invite artists and/or artist teams from Pierce and Thurston Counties to submit proposals for the creation of a piece of temporary artwork for the 4th annual Zeit-Bike exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum.
Art Opportunity
The 2010 Zeit-Bike competition is seeking 3 artists or artist teams to create kinetic sculptures that reference bicycles either in form, materials, or essence. The sculptures must be functional enough to be ridden and human powered.
The kinetic bike sculptures will be exhibited on the upper mezzanine at the Tacoma Art Museum from May 18 - May 21, 2010. A longer temporary installation location will be sought in conjunction with the Temporary Contemporary Tacoma exhibition series (see Background section for more information.)
Finished sculptures must be completed and delivered to the Tacoma Art Museum by noon on May 17, 2010.
Selected artists must be available on Third Thursday, May 20, 2010 to demonstrate to the public how their kinetic bike sculptures operate. Demonstrations will take place on the outdoor plaza of the Museum. Pieces must be powered by artist or another person(s) with oversight by the artist.
Scale: All work must be able to fit on the 3rd floor mezzanine of the Tacoma Art Museum. In order to allow for a 3' wide area of passage, sculptures must fit within an 8' deep space. Ceilings are 10' tall.
