All,As I know there has been discussions behind the scenes, the exec has appointed Mary "MJ" Johnston as the new Social Chair moving forward into the Summer and through the Fall. Oli and Burns will stay on as Committee members and active players. You will see emails from here moving forward regarding any major Harlequin event.
We have not had anyone really want to take on this role from the club who had both the ability and the will to drive it to where we as a club need it to go. With the new non-profit status we have a greater obligation now to both have events that are well managed and promoted. These events also lead into fundraising as well. This position needs to be more of a project manager than a player and as such we expanded our focus beyond the club.
MJ will rely heavily on the previous Chairmen on protocol and contacts for our current events. She will also be responsible for getting and planning our upcoming events. This includes making calls to different venues, contacting sponsors for donations, organizing volunteers all with the help of her fellow committee members.
This is a turning point in the Harlequin organization where we start to look a the bigger picture here and expand our roles beyond the immediate events and having a non-player take on a club role.
Please let me know if you have any concerns and also give MJ any help or advice when you can.
Thanks,Tom VylesPresidentDenver Harlequins RFC
