Hi Mel,

I don't have real world experience, but I can share what I've learned.  I bought the book World Cruising Routes by Jimmy Cornell.  It outlines various options for trip planning.  It seems to me most of it is based on prevailing wind because the audience has mostly been sailors.  From my research it seems either direction is an option, with the most important factor being the when rather than the where.  It's important to be out of the hurricane and typhoon regions for the respective regions when these storms are possible.  It will be interesting to get feedback from others who are either planning their trips, or have made them.  It's my impression most people turn right and head off to the south pacific, but I don't have numbers to support this.  Good luck, tell us more about your boat and plans!  Scott

When circumnavigating in a power boat, does it matter if you go east or
west around?

Do the winds or the currents make one direction favorable to another?

I'm talking about a voyage in a boat such as Idlewild's.

When I leave from Seattle, I need to know if I should take a right at San
Fran and head to Honolulu, or keep going south towards the canal...

thanks!
Mel
