LOUDER THAN A BOMB-TACOMA 2018!

This year Louder than a Bomb-Tacoma (LTAB) is bigger than ever, and it’s
just around the corner! In addition to our poetry slam on April 28, we’ve
put together a festival of great poetry events throughout the month of
April to celebrate youth voice and National Poetry Month, including
workshops, open mics, and a screening of the critically acclaimed
documentary film Louder Than a Bomb. See what we have in store. Questions?

APRIL 7: LTAB-Tacoma Launch Party and Open Mic (2-4pm)

Bring your work and help us kick off National Poetry Month in style! All
types of writing welcome!

APRIL 10: Louder Than a Bomb documentary screening (5:30pm)

APRIL 14: Crossing the Street (10am-3pm)

Post Office Gallery (1102 A St.)

Our pre-slam gathering of all the poets, coaches, and interested poets.
You don’t have to be registered to slam at LTAB to come to Crossing the
Street. (We invite you to come see what it’s all about, just please RSVP to
info@write253.com info@write253.com.) Special guest Tacoma Poet Laureate
Kellie Richardson will be there to speak and perform some her work.

APRIL 16: Creative Colloquy (7pm)

Black Kettle Bites and Brews (744 Market St.)

This monthly open mic event is going to the youth! Check out five feature
performers from the LTAB community, plus have a chance to read during the
open mic!

*APRIL 26: *From Page to Stage: A Performance & Writing Workshop with
Chicago poet Avery R. Young. (2pm) Tacoma Community College Student Center
(6501 S. 19th St.)

Join us for a special workshop with visiting poet Avery R. Young. A great
chance to hone your performance skills and generate work. Open to everyone!

APRIL 26: A DJ Workshop in 2 Parts:

The Foundation of Hip Hop, Rhyming,and Breaking & Scratching Spoken Word
(6pm)

Real Art Tacoma (5412 S. Tacoma Way)

LTAB DJ Smokey Wonder is going to teach you how to work the crowd as you
work the turntables. Learn the history of form and how to work with spoken
word artists and MCs. Poets: slide through to collab in real time with DJs.

APRIL 28

Louder Than a Bomb Poetry Slam (Prelim bouts at 9am and 12pm, Slam finals
at 3:30pm)

Tacoma Community College (6501 S 19th St)

*The LTAB slam! Schools and teams from all over Tacoma and Pierce County
compete against each other in a friendly battle of words. (As we like to
say: the point is not the points, the point is the poetry.) Preliminary
slam bouts at 9am and 12pm. Finals at 3:30pm. *
