National Coalition for Literacy Discussion List
View all threadsHello NCL members,
At the last Public Policy call I indicated we would draft an initial Presidential Survey for submission to the candidates after the first of the year.
I have attached an initial draft and welcome additional comments on it. We had some specific interest in the survey and if you would like to help us with finalization please let me know.
At the recommendation of several literacy stakeholders we tried to have it be an education tool as well as a position survey. Michele Diecuch and Michele Bellso of our staff helped to draft the actual copy. Let us know what you think.
We are also seeking to identify key campaign staff who we can send this to which will better ensure some response. If you have contacts we can use would you please send them on or if more effective we can ask you to send directly once we finalize this paper.
Thanks for everyone's help on this.

Hi, Peter,
You've identified some really major issues here and asked solid questions - kudos to your team! While reading it, though, the questions didn't really stand out from the issues, and it occurred to me if I were the candidate being asked to respond, I wouldn't be completely clear on how/where/when to respond. Perhaps the questions could be separated from the issues a bit, through bolding, italicizing, or using a large Q before the question. And some instructions/guidance on responding to the survey might be useful - perhaps in a separate note or e-mail going out with the survey, but also in the survey itself, either at the beginning or the end. Thank you all for working on this important survey. Happy Thanksgiving,
Margaret
