Vuecrest Newsletter - October 2015
Greetings to all Vuecresters!
What a wonderful month October has been for all of us! Mother Nature
finally gave our shrubs and trees a good long drink of water, and we
actually enjoyed some days of sunshine and warmth.no need for fireplaces
just yet-
It's time we introduce ourselves! We are David and Mara Pitkethly and have
now been Vuecrest residents for 3 delightful months. We moved from our home
in Bridle Trails where we had lived for 27 years. odd aches and pains told
us it was time to relinquish our tri-level to someone with younger body
parts, and find ourselves a sweet rambler - and we succeeded! We bought our
beautiful home from Laurie Ashbaugh at 9821 Hilltop Road. We are both
medical people; David is a retired neurosurgeon and Mara is a retired
Overlake nurse, as well as a retired Flight Attendant from American
Airlines. We love the leisurely walks we take in the early evenings and the
kindness and camaraderie of our neighbors. We volunteered to write this
newsletter, and we count on you to keep our email handy (
mailto:dtpit@uw.edu dtpit@uw.edu) or call us at 425-698-1242 and let us
know what is on your mind. After all, this is YOUR newsletter.we're just the
messengers!
Our Flag
Many thanks to Kristin Bodiford and her sons Ryan and Cam! They have
volunteered to take over "flag-duty". Just so you know, there is more to
this than raising and lowering the Stars and Stripes; there are also
maintenance duties, as well as essential and timely repairs as needed. Upon
the death of notable statesmen and under the guidance of the President or
Governor, the flag is to be lowered at half-staff. We all give hearty thanks
to the Bodiford family for assuming this responsibility.
Keep Vuecrest Beautiful
Now is a great time to trim your hedges and trees. This past summer has
brought exceptional growth to our neighborhood, often two to three feet. Our
neighborhood covenants limit hedges to four feet in front of the home and
six feet elsewhere. In addition, trees need to be maintained so that they
don't block views of neighbors. Keeping them to your roofline or below is a
good reference point. Please be a good neighbor and ensure that your
landscaping stays under control and within the limits. If you have
questions, feel free to contact mailto:landscaping@vuecrest.net
landscaping@vuecrest.net."
Keep Vuecrest Safe
The car prowlers were out this summer, reminding us that even in Vuecrest
we are not immune to such bad behavior, unfortunately. If there is any good
news from this, it is that they have only broken into UNlocked cars (so
far). If we all lock our cars, they may eventually tire of trying but when
even one car provides that deranged "high", they'll keep on returning. So do
us all a favor: lock up every night! If you are the unfortunate victim of a
car break-in, DO call 911 (ask for "non-urgent") to report it as well as
email the Vuecrest Block watch group at mailto:blockwatch@vuecrest.net
blockwatch@vuecrest.net. When police assess a trend in our neighborhood,
they will send out extra patrol.

elections for 2 of the director positions.

Sumiyoshi/Continental Properties Redevelopment Meeting
There are plans to replace the 24 unit apartment complex at our east
entrance (NE corner of 10th and 100th) with a 5-story, 135 unit apartment
building with 2 levels of underground parking. A public meeting on this
project was held on October 22 in City Hall, and summary notes were sent
out. If you are interested in actively participating in the discussion with
the developer and the city, please contact Jonathan Kagle at
President@vuecrest.net mailto:President@vuecrest.net .
Drive EXTRA safely!
With rain in the forecast for Halloween, please be extra careful driving
around Vuecrest. Many costumes obscure visibility and rain hats, umbrellas,
etc. can make it difficult for kids and families to see you. And remember
that hundreds of kids and their families will walking in our streets, often
more focused on candy and their friends than oncoming traffic.
Please, please, please drive slowly through our neighborhood. Many of us
are walkers and may have our little pooches in tow. There is no possible
rush to anywhere that would make it worth harming a living creature. So slow
down, relax.that's why you moved here!
Wishing you all a safe Halloween.watch out for the little ghosts and
goblins.time to stock up on sugar!!! HAPPY BOO to YOU!
