I echo Marisela's comments - the Inver Grove Heights Animal Hospital and the U of M Veterinary School provide excellent care.

It sounds a lot like a cruciate ligament tear, but you may be lucky and she just has a pulled muscle. Ask your breeder about relatives with this as some breed lines have a higher incidence than others. On Mar 29, 2015 3:21 PM, "elizabeth long" elizalinn@gmail.com wrote:
Hello Everyone,My name is Liz and I have a 20 month old female Newf. A week ago she was playing with my grandson in my home and while "charging" to get a toy got tangled in a purse handle and apparently twisted her knee. She was limping on it so within a few days I took her to the vet who said we should watch it for 10 days and gave me a prescription and instructions on her activity level etc. She started to do much better and I took her outside with me off leash yesterday and of course, as most Newfies will do, she bolted and started running around the yard because she had been on leash for so many days. Well now she will barely put any weight on her leg at all and my vet said to give it a couple of days with confinement and rest and call her Monday to let her know how she's doing. We will decide from there which direction to go in and she will give me referrals if she feels it's necessary. So my question is has anyone in this group ever experienced this or heard of someone who has with their large breed dog and do you have any good information or referrals etc that you can give me. I have pet insurance so I am pretty confident that this will be covered so I am willing to do just about anything. She's a sweet sweet girl and I I'm broken hearted that this whole thing happened and I want the best for her.
Thanks!

Yesterday a number of people asked about two of the grooming tools I was using for getting undercoat out during shedding season, as well as mat removal. Here are a couple of sources: Petedge (https://www.petedge.com )has two tools very similar to the Oliver Slant Comb that I used (you can also find the Oliver comb on eBay every now and then). I think the first one is the closest to what I was using. https://www.petedge.com/zpetedgemain/catalog/productDetail.jsf?area=&sort=RA&wec-appid=PEDM_WEBSHOP_TR&page=72A214C22827430A9795247F1BF064D6&itemKey=005056A633791ED2B5864A943AB9CFB3&show=12&view=grid&wec-locale=en_US https://www.petedge.com/zpetedgemain/catalog/productDetail.jsf?area=&sort=RA&wec-appid=PEDM_WEBSHOP_TR&page=72A214C22827430A9795247F1BF064D6&itemKey=005056A633791ED390BB36C289B368B6&show=12&view=grid&wec-locale=en_US and several of these are good for getting at mats:https://www.petedge.com/zpetedgemain/catalog/home.jsf?area=PMGT-01-04&sort=RA&wec-appid=PEDM_WEBSHOP_TR&page=2363A0D2C50B47B085F14DAAF7AE3DF9&show=12&view=grid&wec-locale=en_US Another good source is Cherrybrook: (http://1omt.net/www.cherrybrook.com/ )They have a page with “rakes and mat combs” http://www.cherrybrook.com/index.cfm/a/catalog.catshow/catid/213/cname/Rakes_and_Mat_Combs And for custom size grooming tables at a great price, contact Richard Donnay at tberesford@meltel.net Chris Plum5452 Kimberly RdMinnetonka, MN 55345
